How to Digitize Your Auto Repair Shop in 5 Steps

Step-by-step guide to bringing your auto repair shop into the digital world. From the first digital work order to electronic invoicing.

Digitization is not optional

The Chilean automotive market is changing. Customers expect transparency, speed, and clear communication. Shops that don't adapt will lose customers to those that do.

The good news: digitizing your shop is easier than you think.

Step 1: Choose management software

You don't need a complex ERP system or a massive investment. You need a simple tool that lets you:

  • Create work orders
  • Register customers and vehicles
  • Keep track of your shop

Look for software that's easy to use, works on your phone, and has a free plan to start without risk.

Step 2: Register your current customers

Start with the customers coming in this week. Don't try to migrate 10 years of history at once. Every time a customer arrives:

  1. Register them in the system with their name and phone
  2. Add their vehicle with the license plate
  3. Create the digital work order

In 2-3 weeks you'll have a solid database with no extra effort.

Step 3: Eliminate paper

Once you're comfortable creating digital WOs, stop using paper orders. The benefits are immediate:

  • They don't get lost — everything is saved in the cloud
  • They're legible — no more illegible handwriting
  • They're searchable — find any WO in seconds
  • They have history — you know exactly what was done and when

Step 4: Connect invoicing

Electronic invoicing to the SII is mandatory in Chile. If your management software integrates with the SII, you can issue receipts directly from the work order. One data entry, zero errors.

Step 5: Use the data to improve

With a digital system, you start accumulating valuable data:

  • What are the most frequent jobs? Prepare parts in advance.
  • What's your average ticket? Adjust your prices if needed.
  • How long do you take on average? Improve delivery times.
  • Who are your best customers? Take care of them with personalized attention.

Common mistakes when digitizing

Trying to do everything at once

Digital transformation is gradual. Start with the basics (WOs and customers) and add features when you need them.

Not involving the team

If your mechanics don't use the system, it's useless. Choose software with a simple interface they'll want to use. Large buttons, clear flows, no complications.

Choosing overly complex software

You don't need an ERP with 200 modules. You need a tool focused on what a shop does: receive cars, diagnose, repair, and deliver.

The best time to start is today

Every day without a digital system is a day of lost data, poorly served customers, and missed opportunities.
